Eyelet Nostalgia
I really never imagined I’d be sitting here reminiscing about eyelet fabric, and yet that’s exactly what I’m doing.
If you’re not familiar with eyelet fabric, it’s characterized by small cutouts that are typically finished with embroidered stitches. I think it’s really pretty, but I’m sure I didn’t appreciate it as much growing up. However, I’m feeling a little nostalgic about it now.
I know eyelet fabric never completely “went away”, but it was certainly more popular in the 80’s, when I spent my first decade of childhood. I didn’t have to look far to see eyelet fabric adorning beds, windows, and even clothing.
In particular, I remember my grandparent’s bedroom was filled with eyelet — bedspread, bed skirt, pillow shams, and window curtains. I remember decorative throw pillows having eyelet “lace” edging. Dresses and shirts even had (and still have) eyelet designs. It was popular and it was everywhere.
All of this reminiscing was spurred on by the new Eyelet Embossing Folder from Stampin’ Up!®.

I got it as part of the Country Woods Suite in the new annual catalog that went live May 1, 2024, however it can be purchased alone if preferred.
I love adding an embossed layer to my cards for extra texture. It is a nice way to add a subtle pattern without patterned paper, inks or stamps.
My card this week features a white eyelet-embossed background panel on a white card base. I love the texture it adds to an otherwise “plain” piece of white cardstock.
I kept the embellishment cluster in the lower left corner of the card front to allow plenty of space for the eyelet panel to be the star of the show.
To round this card out, I used the Stylish Shapes Dies to cut a sentiment banner from Petal Pink cardstock and squares from both white cardstock and a piece of patterned paper that comes with the Country Woods Suite. There are two packs of 12x12 paper, one called Country Woods and the other called Country Lace Designer Series Paper. They can be purchased on their own or as part of the suite. The piece I chose was from Country Lace and looks like denim with an eyelet pattern. It took me back to my country roots!
I die cut the flower container from Smoky Slate cardstock and stamped the “Flower Market” label onto it with Smoky Slate ink. I thought this gave the bucket a galvanized tin look.
The bird was stamped from the Country Birdhouse stamp set and I cut it out with the matching die after coloring it with Stampin’ Blends alcohol markers in Misty Moonlight and Smoky Slate, and Ivory for the beak and feet.
The flowers were from the Country Flowers stamp set and, again, I cut them out with the matching die after coloring with Stampin’ Blends alcohol Markers. The colors I used were Petal Pink, Mossy Meadow, Smoky Slate and Misty Moonlight.
Below, I’m sharing a few other cards using the Eyelet Embossing folder. I again used it for a full background panel in the new Neutral color Basic Beige. I also used it to emboss a die cut circle where I placed my main focal images.
As you can see, an embossing folder adds “a little something” extra to a plain piece of card stock. You don’t need stamps or ink to add a fun texture. And who knows, the pattern may even spark some fond childhood memories.
I hope you give embossing folders a try. If you don’t have a Stampin’ Up!® demonstrator and would like to add some of these products to your craft room, click the “Shop With Me” button above or the link below.
