Birdhouse-Shaped Card
Birdhouse-shaped notecard featuring colors Lost Lagoon, Early Espresso, Mossy Meadow and Blackberry Bliss.
When I saw the birdhouse die in the new Country Birdhouse stamp set and die bundle, I couldn’t resist making a shaped card. I think it turned out adorable! It makes a cute little notecard that is just big enough for a special message on its own or as a gift tag to accompany a present.
The card base hinges along the left side of the birdhouse roof, so the card opens right to left.
See the full process tutorial on how this little birdhouse-shaped card came together.
The straight edge of the birdhouse roof lends itself perfectly to act as a “hinge” for a card base.
I started with a folded white card base. This can be smaller than A2 (4.25” x 5.5”) since the birdhouse die is smaller, however should be large enough to allow the die to fit comfortably within the base.
Turn the die so one half of the roof is parallel with (or lined up with) the fold of the card base - I used the left side of the roof so the card would open right to left.
Then, offset the die so the cut edge is just off the card base fold. This will ensure the fold stays intact while the remaining sides of the birdhouse are cut out.
I like to use a low-tack tape to hold the die in place, so it doesn’t shift, during the cutting process. Run the die and card stock through a die cutting machine and remove the die from the card stock.
Now the shaped card is ready to be decorated!
I cut the birdhouse again from Lost Lagoon card stock and then ran that layer through my embossing machine using the Timber 3D Embossing Folder, to give it a wood texture.
I used the additional die pieces from the set to cut the birdhouse details, like the base and roof. I cut the roof, base, and the perch from Early Espresso card stock, the “hole” from black card stock, and the roof scallop detail from Basic White card stock.
I stamped images from both the Country Flowers and Country Birdhouse stamp sets, using Memento Black ink. I stamped the “sending love” sentiment, bird and flower/foliage bundle on Basic White card stock.
I cut out the bird and flowers with the coordinating dies, and the sentiment from one of the banner-shaped dies from the Stylish Shapes Dies set.
I colored the bird and flowers with Stampin’ Blends alcohol markers. Colors used are Lost Lagoon, Mossy Meadow, Blackberry Bliss, and Ivory for the beak and feet.
I cut a 10-inch length of white baker’s twine and separated the strands of the twine before tying into a bow.
I used a combination of liquid glue and Stampin’ Dimensionals to secure the pieces to the card base. I also used a glue dot for the bow and I made sure to use a mini dimensional under the perch, so my cute little bird had a place to stand.
