Two-Tone Cardstock Hello Card

I’ve been an avid scrapbooker for 30 years.

I was introduced to the hobby when I was still in high school and I immediately connected with both the creativity of “decorating” the pages as well as the memory-keeping through photos and journaling.

To this day, I still enjoy scrapbooking, though I no longer print and scrap every single photo I take.

A lot of the pictures I take now are when my husband and I are camping or trail riding in Northern Minnesota or the Black Hills of South Dakota.

So, when I saw the new Autumn to Remember Scrapbook Workshop kit from Stampin’ Up!®, I fell in love with the colors and images, including cute little trees and woodland critters. Though meant for “autumn” memory keeping, I see the potential to use it for our camping adventures any time of year.

While I haven’t taken the time to scrapbook with these products yet, I can see oodles of card-making potential in the lovely papers and embellishments.

One of the new products in the kit (some colors are also sold separately) is two-tone cardstock. I loved this product when Close to My Heart® carried it, and was absolutely thrilled when Stampin’ Up!® announced they would now carry it, in the familiar SU! colors.

The unique thing about this cardstock is that one side is a lighter shade and the other side is a darker shade of the same color. It really is “built-in” color coordination. One piece provides opportunity for matting photos or layering on a card project and having the colors coordinate without pulling out multiple pieces of paper.

For my card project, I used four colors of two-tone cardstock: Petal Pink, Old Olive, Mossy Meadow and Pecan Pie. I adhered 1/2” wide strips of the paper to a focal panel, alternating the lighter and darker shades of my four colors.

This technique can be done with any color of cardstock or patterned paper, for fast and stunning focal panels.

I ran the panel through the embossing machine using the Forever Plaid 3D Embossing Folder, popped it up with dimensionals on my Mossy Meadow card base and Very Vanilla panel.

I stamped “hello” from the Simply Said stamp set on a scrap of Very Vanilla and angle cut the right end of the sentiment strip.

I added a twine bow and two of the little wood embellishment pieces from the Scrapbook Kit to finish off the card.

It came together so quickly and is a sweet way to say hello to a friend.
